How to forward text to email
Forward SMS is a versatile Android app that seamlessly forwards text to emails, phone numbers, URLs/APIs, or Telegram. It also forwards phone alerts like missed calls, outgoing calls, shutdown/turn-on events, and low battery alerts. Additionally, it offers auto and remote replies for efficient message management.
To send text messages to your email address, we need to create a rule. In the rule, you can enter the email address and configure other details, such as forwarding only selected messages by applying filters. In the following steps, we will create a basic rule.
Choose Basic Rule
From the available options, select the Basic Rule option. Other rules, such as the Advanced Rule, can also be used to forward to multiple email addresses.
Choose Email as the receiver
From the receiver menu, select Email. Besides an email address, you can also forward text messages to a phone number, a Telegram account or a URL endpoint.
Filter messages
(Optional) Apply a filter based on the message content or sender, so that only specific messages are forwarded to the email address. To do this, turn off the Forward all messages toggle.
Save the rule
Once you have configured the rule, tap the Save button to save the basic rule settings. The app will request the permissions it needs while saving the rule.
Test the rule
After saving the rule, it's recommended to test it by selecting the Test option. This lets you verify that the rule is set up correctly and forwards SMS messages according to your criteria. If an email doesn't arrive, check your spam folder or follow the troubleshooting steps below.
By following these steps, you can forward messages to an email address automatically.
Apart from text messages, you can also forward the following to an email address:
- Other app notifications: use the Notification Rule to forward other apps' notifications to your email.
- Call alerts: use Phone Alerts to forward missed, incoming or outgoing call details to your email address.
- Phone alerts: use the Phone Alerts feature to forward alerts such as low battery or the phone shutting down or turning on.
We forward emails from the mailer@forward-sms.com address. There could be several reasons why messages are not being forwarded to your email:
- The email address entered is incorrect. This is the most common reason we see when troubleshooting.
- Messages might not be forwarded because of filters. Check the message history to see why a message was not forwarded.
- Emails might be going to the spam folder.
- A firewall or network policy is blocking emails. Corporate email systems might filter our emails. You can contact your IT or admin team, or we can help.

By default, your messages are forwarded using the app's email account. You can choose to use your own email account instead, such as Gmail, Outlook or Zoho.
Using your own email account has several benefits:
- Privacy: your messages leave the device only through your own account.
- No sending limits: there are limits on how many messages the app's email service can forward each day. With your own email, you can forward more if your email provider allows it.
- Outages: we lease a mail server to forward messages by email, and it could have an outage. Using your own email avoids that.
Follow these steps to use your own email account:
