Forward text messages to a REST API in iOS

Forward SMS is a versatile iOS app that seamlessly forwards SMS to emails, Slack, Discord, URLs/APIs, or Telegram.

Prerequisites

  • A REST API that can handle requests already exists.
  • Forward SMS app has been installed and is ready to use.

In the Forward SMS app

Forward SMS to a REST API

  1. Create a new rule

    Open the Forward SMS app and create a new rule.

  2. Add a receiver

    Tap the Add Receiver button to add a REST API receiver.

  3. Choose REST API

    Select the REST API option from the list.

  4. Open the API details

    Tap the Add API Detail button to add the REST API details.

  5. Choose the method

    Change the API method. By default, it is set to POST. You can change it to GET or PUT depending on your API endpoint.

  6. Enter the URL and body

    Enter the URL and Body of the REST API endpoint you want to forward SMS to. You can use the available properties, which are replaced with real values when a message is forwarded. See the sample below.

  7. Add headers

    (Optional) You can also add Headers to the API request. This is useful if your API requires authentication or other custom headers.

  8. Save the REST API config

    Save the REST API config.

  9. Test the rule

    (Optional) Test the rule to make sure the SMS is forwarded.

  10. Save the rule

    Save the rule.
